Draped in Elements is a collaboration between Emily Davis (film photographer) and Michael Moore (textile scientist and designer).
Emily: These photo collections are a study in alchemy. A story is told about the journey of growing awareness to the elements and source around us. Throughout this journey, offerings are made to source as a rite of passage, marking the transformation into a creator. As creators, we have the power to affect culture and how society moves forward. This is especially relevant to decisions that we make to protect our Earth and the abundance that it offers. This message is communicated through the juxtaposition of landscape and textiles. The textures and features of the landscapes, and elements of earth, fire, water and air are echoed in the fabrics. This draws the connection and question for the viewer of the source of the fabrics; in one way or another, they are from nature.
Michael: With the collection titled “The Cloth of Warriors”, it was my mission to skillfully interweave the wisdom of yore and cutting-edge artistry of today with the fusion of tradition and innovation, to foster a bridge between epochs for a profound understanding of the past, to illuminate our path into the future. In unity with the spirit of the samurai, we take up the mantle of modern artisans, breathing new life into the fabric of time itself.
